Parliament
The Parliament, constructed in its present form in 1904, is located in Kossuth Lajos square. It was designed by Imre Steindl in gothic revival style and is an integral element of the Budapest panorama. The construction took 40 million bricks and incorporated 40 kg of gold for ornamentation. You can also find on Kossuth Lajos square, a memorial to the Hungarian revolution of 1956, a memorial to Lajos Kossuth himself, and a statue of Ferenc Rákóczi on horseback.
Buda Castle district
The Buda Castle is the 1st district in Budapest and is located on the Buda side of Budapest on the castle hill. The National Art Gallery, Fisherman’s Bastion, Trinity square and Matthias church can be found in this beautiful historical district. Walking in the streets of the castle district is an authentic experience to the history of Hungary and a must for all visitors. You can easily get to the district by bus from the Moszkva or Deák Ferenc square. The district has only restricted car access, so it’s advised to go there by foot.
Heroes Square
Heroes’ square, one of the most representative squares of Budapest, is located at the end of the Andrássy street and can be seen from a very wide distance because of its Millennium memorial rising in the middle. You can also find on the sides of the square the Hall of Art and the Fine Arts Museum, which have hosted exhibitions of painters like Picasso, Van Gogh and Monet. The statues in the middle of the square are statues of the most important heroes of Hungarian history, which the square was named for.
Hungarian National Art Gallery
The Hungarian National Art Gallery is located in the Royal Palace in the Buda Castle district. You can find there the most outstanding and important paintings of the Hungarian history. The opening hours are from 10 am till 6 pm except Monday, when the museum is closed.
Vörösmarty Square
Vörösmarty Square is one of the most beautiful squares in Budapest, which is located on the northern end of Váci street. You can find a statue of Mihály Vörösmarty, a famous Hungarian writer in the middle of the square, which is surrounded by a small park. In the square, which is the final stop for the M1 Millenium Subway, you can sample some of the delicacies of the Gerbeaud Café, which has been producing fine cakes and desserts for more than 145 years.
Gerbeaud Café
The Gerbaud Café is the most famous café of Budapest and is located on the Vörösmarty square right next to the final stop of the M1 Millenium Subway line. The 1858 established Gerbaud has got a restaurant with traditional Hungarian, international and Gerbeaud specialty courses, a café with desserts and cakes and a pub area. It is also possible to rent meeting spaces in this historical building.
Váci street
Váci street is the most famous shopping and walking street of Budapest, featuring architecture from the beginning of the 20th century. Today the beautiful tarnished buildings give home to some luxurious clothes stores and gift shops as well as to banks and restaurants .
Margaret Island
The 2,5 km’s long island, the Margaret Island is the biggest public park in Budapest and is the perfect place for relaxing, doing sports or just having fun by renting a bicycle or a pedal car. You can find sport courts, bars, popular clubs, restaurants and the biggest fountain of Budapest, which is shooting its water streams to the rhythm of classical music, on the island. The park was established 1908, when it got connected to the Buda and Pest side through the Árpád and Margaret bridge. It’s easy to access the park from one of the bridges, especially from the Margaret Island tram stop of the line 4 and 6.
